The Japanese term "KOKEDAMA" means "moss-ball." You encase an ornamental plant's roots within a mud ball. You wrap that mud ball with moss and twine. It's also known as the "poor man's bonsai" and is a unique way of displaying ornamental plants.

When the outer layer or moss begins to feel dry or the ball itself feels light, it is time to water. The easiest way is to place the Kokedama in a bowl of water for about 30 minutes depending on it's size. The ball will absorb the water over time. Once it has absorbed enough, squeeze out the excess water. You can even dap the bottom with cloth to prevent drippage. The frequency of water will depend on your plant's specific needs. The room's temperature can also affect watering, hot rooms will dry it faster. Cold rooms ill cause it to dry slower.

On average, a rewrap will be needed every 2 to 3 years. If your Kokedama has roots shooting out from the moss, it's time to rewrap your Kokedama.

Create you mud mix in a separate bowl and put aside. Prep your newer sheet moss by removing rocks and branches and wetting it for easier application. Dismantle your kokedama, but keep the moss and twine (if it's in good condition). Inspect the roots and make sure everything looks healthy. Proceed to add more mud to the ball, add enough to cover the exposed roots. Add about an inch or two of diameter to your ball. Lay out your sheet moss, old and new, and rewrap it around the larger mud ball. Wrap the twine around the moss ball, reshaping as you go. Tie off with a double knot and your done.

All Kokedamas are made to order. Depending on the species of plant you request, it can take up to 2 weeks to ship your order. If the plant species is easy to source, then you may recieve your order sooner.
